LIVERMORE FALLS — The number of copper pipe thefts rose Friday night when police learned of another one on School Street.
Approximately $800 worth of copper pipe was taken from a School Street home where no one was living, police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said Monday.
Someone went over to do some work Friday for the owner, Wells Fargo Bank, he said. The worker alerted police around 6:30 p.m. Friday that copper pipe was missing.
Police believe the theft occurred sometime within the last week, Steward said.
Last Monday, a theft from a Jones Road home was the 10th theft of copper pipes since July 5. Friday’s reported theft brings the number up to 11 cases, he said.
Houses have been broken into and copper pipes cut and ripped out from the plumbing and heating systems, he said last week.
The value of the pipes taken in the first 10 thefts was more than $2,500.
Other thefts have occurred on Pleasant, Sewall, Knapp and Wheeler streets and Moose Hill Road.
