TURNER — The Board of Selectmen on Monday night awarded the roadside mowing contract to low bidder A. Hood & Son Inc. of Turner for $5,775.

Caldwell Inc. bid $5,985.

The board was informed the new Turner Center Bridge over the Androscoggin River is nearing completion and there will be a ribbon cutting at noon Tuesday, Aug. 12.

The board interviewed four applicants for rescue chief in executive session before the meeting, and returned to executive session after the meeting to continue discussion.

Town Manager Kurt Schaub presented a proposal for handling solid waste, which the board will study before discussing it at their meeting Aug. 18. The current contract expires in December.
