RANGELEY — Joanne Chapman of the Rangeley School Board asked selectmen this week for help filling an open position on the board.

“We have one position open for the town of Rangeley, and we haven’t had any luck filling it,” Chapman said, “and I’m asking the selectmen to consider helping us find someone for the place.”

Selectman Rob Welch said he’s also concerned about getting people to serve.

“I hope we are turning a corner on this,” he said at Tuesday’s selectmen meeting.

Speaking for Town Manager Tiki White, fire Chief Tim Pellerin reported that among the Police Department’s recent activity were arrests on charges of theft and domestic assault, three speeding violations and four parking tickets.

The Fire Department answered six calls, including one oil spill, one medical assist, and assistance to the Maine Forest Service for a wildfire, which is billable to the service.

Town Clerk Ethna Thompson said installation of the pump station generator has run into difficulties, which will be addressed by White. Thompson also said the code enforcement officer reported the installation of the new cellphone tower is on hold pending discussion of the necessity of a warning light.

The park drainage project has gone out to bid and two requests for plan packets have been received. Packets are available at the Town Office.
