DIXFIELD —   If Lisbon boys’ soccer had one concern about its undefeated start to the season, it was putting away an opponent when the opportunity presents itself.

The Greyhounds heeded that message Monday, scoring multiple goals in a seven-minute span early in the first half to take full control in a 5-0 MVC victory over Dirigo at sunny Harlow Park.

Junior sniper Austin Fournier broke loose and scored four goals to lead Lisbon, and the defense, spearheaded by goalie Ryley Austin, was equally successful.

Lisbon (4-0) forwards Bradley Boulet, Fournier, Troy Galarneau and others flooded the zone, and it paid off. Fournier scored on a rush when his shot deflected off a defender and got past Dirigo goalie Justin Grignon.

“When we got up early it was good,” Lisbon coach Dan Sylvester said. “It was nice to see us finish things off when we had the opportunities. That had been a problem in our first few games, like the 1-0 win over Winthrop, because we let them hang around and didn’t score until the second half.”

One minute later, on a direct free kick, Nick Lerette tapped the ball back to Nick Huston, who booted a blast in to the far corner of the net.

The Greyhounds put constant pressure on the Dirigo defense, which was led by sweeper Collin Woodhead and backers Justin Cantin and Griffyn Smith.

Dirigo also took a hit when senior Nick St. Germain injured his knee during pre-game and was unable to play.

“We came out a little flat,” Dirigo coach Owen Libby said. “The boys were a little distracted after losing Nick, and once Lisbon scored, we was back on our heels.”

Lisbon kept up the momentum when Fournier sprang forward and blasted a low line drive by Grignon (12 saves). Fournier also scored on a rush for a 4-0 lead at halftime.

“(Fournier) is our go-to guy,” said Sylvester, whose team faces back-to-back games with Wiscasset on Friday and Monmouth on Saturday. “Now we need to have some others step up. We tried to get the ball up and over, use combination passing and get to the ball.”

Dirigo started running and used booming boots by converted midfielder Randy DeRoche to get the ball into the offensive zone. The Cougars had some opportunities as Yosepat Channerone set up Colton Woods and Woods sent in Wesley Libby, but in each case the ball was booted over the cross bar.

“I expected a better effort,” said Libby, whose Cougars played well in a win against Telstar and a close loss to Wiscasset. “We didn’t play that badly at stages, but we need to be more consistent. We’ll regroup, but sometimes that’s the way it goes in soccer.”

Lisbon, who have not been scored upon in four games, relied on its defense of Josh Huston, Jacob Fusaro, Andrew Balser, Austin Bedford and Lerette to back check and push the ball forward. The lone senior in the group is Johnny Yim.

Dirigo had chances in the second half with Ben Buck, Keenan Martin and Cody Dollof taking aim.

Fournier completed the scoring by sliding toward the right post, forcing the goalie out of the crease to reduce the angle, and depositing the ball into the far corner.
