LEWISTON — A 32-year-old pregnant woman died after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon. Police said they are looking for her boyfriend.
Police are looking for a blue 2001 Suzuki SUV with Maine license plates 6593 UJ, according to a news release from state police.
Police believe it was driven by the dead woman’s boyfriend, Evaristo Deus, 33, of 37 Union St., Lewiston. Police described him as black, 5 feet, 8 inches tall and said he weighs 160 pounds.
The dead woman was identified by police as Laudrinha Kubeloso, who moved from Angola to Lewiston during the past year. She was four months pregnant.
According to Lt. Michael McGonagle of the Lewiston Police Department, Kubeloso was struck at about 3 p.m. while walking down Howe Street from Birch Street.
She later died at a local hospital, the release from state police said.
McGonagle said a vehicle traveling down Howe Street between Birch Street and Walnut Street struck the woman from behind before fleeing the scene.
Lewiston’s Criminal Investigations Division closed down a section of Howe Street near 144 Howe, in front of the Tree Street Youth program, where crews were mapping the scene after the incident.
