The Saints scored early and often, and their defense pitched their fourth consecutive shutout in a 6-0 victory over the Cougars. St. Dom’s has outscored opponents 18-0 in its last four matches.

Juniors Ryan Lutrzykowski and Austin Roy picked up where they left off Tuesday against Wiscasset, netting two goals each for the Saints (4-1-1). Lutrzykowski recorded a hat trick two days earlier, while Roy scored a pair of goals.

“I feel like they’re some of the better players in the conference,” St. Dom’s coach Marty Bressler said. “They’re really starting to score at the right time. We have the heart of our season next week. We’re going to need them going into the playoffs. We need to keep multiple scorers up for the postseason.”

While Lutrzykowski and Roy accounted for four of the team’s six goals Thursday, it was Jacob Charest that registered the first marker just three minutes in. Charest crashed the net on a volley into the box and beat Dirigo goalkeeper Justin Grignon to give the Saints the early lead.

Lutrzykowski scored the next two — the first in the 22nd minute and the latter in the 34th — as St. Dom’s built a 3-0 halftime lead. He fought through a couple Dirigo defenders in the box on his first goal before chipping a shot over Grignon.

“We played well as a team, starting from the back,” Lutrzykowski said. “Our goalie played well. As a whole, we played a good, solid game.”

The goal of the match came off the foot of St. Dom’s midfielder Connor Samson. In the 43rd minute, Samson curled a shot from near the end line that deflected off the far-side post and into the net.

“They have a lot of skill on the ball, they have a lot of depth and they run real hard on the counter attack,” Dirigo coach Owen Libby said.

Roy capped off the scoring with a goal in the 48th and 64th minutes. Roy chased down a through ball from Charest on his first goal and beat Grignon one-on-one for a 5-0 lead. He added an unassisted goal 16 minutes later.i

“We knew what we had to do,” Roy said. “I feel like we executed well. We’ve been working on our attack a lot by going from the back and moving forward. We found the right lanes today and executed well.”

The Saints held a 32-3 advantage in shots and took the only two corner kicks of the match. St. Dom’s six-goal output matched a season-high set two days earlier against Wiscasset.

Bressler believed his team played better in the second half despite scoring in the opening three minutes of the match.

“The first half I don’t feel like we were fast enough,” Bressler said. “We’ve been on a little bit of a role. I didn’t feel like we came out of the gate like we should have, but the second half was much better. Passing, possession and movement were much better.”

The Saints get the weekend off before hitting the meat of their schedule, which begins Monday at Lisbon. They’ll also play Monmouth Academy and Mt. Abram later in the week. Those three teams were a combined 14-3 entering Thursday.
