FARMINGTON — Police said a New Gloucester man was charged after leaving the scene of an accident Friday night.

Vean Hotham, 20, was arrested after police said his vehicle rear-ended another on the Wilton Road near the old Rite Aid building and he drove on.

Hotham, driving a Ford F-250, was behind Sean Griffin, 27, of North New Portland, who was driving a 2000 Toyota, into town about 9:30 p.m. Friday, Rachel Heseltine, Farmington police secretary, said.

When something, which looked like a cat, ran out in front of Griffin, he tried to brake, and Hotham couldn’t stop. After hitting the back of the Toyota he drove on, according to officials.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy Andrew Morgan spotted and stopped the vehicle on the Fairbanks Road.

Farmington police officer Derek MacDonald responded to the Wilton Road scene, Heseltine said.

Farmington officer Daryn Gilbert went to Fairbanks Road to talk with Hotham and found bottles of Twisted Tea in the back of the truck. He was given a summons on a charge of transporting liquor, she said.

Neither man was injured. The Toyota received minor damage and was driven away.
