SABATTUS — The race for selectmen isn’t set after all.
Town Manager Andrew Gilmore said in an email that selectmen have called an emergency meeting for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, to sort out the details over a seat left open when Selectman Don Therrien abruptly resigned earlier this month.
Gilmore said candidates who were already collecting signatures to run for the open seats with one- and three-year terms were wrongly told they could switch races and run for Therrien’s two-year seat or any other seat on the same nomination papers.
That came from “the former temporary deputy clerk,” he said. “In fact, that advice was not correct and not allowed under Maine statute.”
Selectmen will outline the situation Tuesday and decide on the nomination schedule to fill Therrien’s term.
The new ballot, as it stood late last week, according to Gilmore: Jeff Baril and Randy Gayton are running against each other for the one-year term. Michelle Ames, Norm Estes, Les Gibson and Andre Marquis are all competing for the three-year term.
