ORONO — For the ninth year, the University of Maine Collins Center for the Arts will feature live transmissions of the Metropolitan Opera’s Peabody Award- and Emmy Award-winning series The Met: Live in HD.
Macbeth, Carmen and Il Barbiere di Siviglia are among the operas to be live streamed from the Metropolitan Opera House at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York and shown on a 40-foot screen in 5.1 surround sound at CCA. The eason includes Macbeth, Oct. 25; Carmen, Nov. 1; Il Barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville), Dec. 6; Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg (The Master-Singers of Nuremburg), Jan. 10; The Merry Widow, Jan. 17; Les Contes d’Hoffmann (The Tales of Hoffmann), Feb. 7; Iolanta and Bluebeard’s Castle, Feb. 14; La Donna del Lago (The Lady of the Lake), March 14; and Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci (Rustic Chivalry and Clowns), April 25.
Volunteers from the Collins Opera Outreach and Education Committee have coordinated a new, free lecture series at area public libraries prior to broadcasts. Lectures about Macbeth will be held Oct. 22 at Bangor Public Library and Oct. 23 at Orono Public Library. A lecture about Carmen will be held Oct. 29 at Bangor Public Library. And lectures about Il Barbiere di Siviglia will be held Dec. 3 at Bangor and Brewer public libraries and Dec. 4 at Orono Public Library. All talks begin at 5:30 p.m.
