AUBURN — Police said Monday they won’t investigate further a report of a needle found in a Halloween candy bar.

“It turns we cannot say for sure where the candy came from,” Deputy Chief Jason Moen said.

It was first reported that the candy came from the Amberley Way and Fairview Avenue area. But police learned later that the family had gone to a Halloween party after trick-or-treating in their neighborhood. At that party, the children swapped candy with kids from other towns.

“So we can’t say for sure where the candy came from,” Moen said.

No reports of candy tampering have been reported elsewhere in Maine, he said. The wrapper on the candy bar didn’t appear to be compromised, he said, “so we’re not quite sure how the needle got there.”

His department has contacted the Halloween Safety Hotline with the information, Moen said.
