NEW GLOUCESTER — A farmhouse on Abby Lane sustained $150,000 damage in an early morning fire Tuesday, Fire Department Capt. Scott Doyle said in a news release.
The owner of the 2½-story home was alerted to the blaze by her dog and all five occupants safely left the house, he said.
New Gloucester Fire & Rescue was dispatched to 12 Abby Lane at 4:39 a.m., said Doyle, who was the first firefighter at the scene. The fire was visible at the rear of the building on the second floor, he said.
Firefighters got the fire under control within an hour. There was moderate fire damage but considerable smoke damage, Doyle said.
Investigators have not determined a cause, he said.
Doyle said there is a question on whether the home had smoke detectors on the first floor and whether the alarms on the second floor were activated.
Abby Lane is off Route 26.
Fire crews from New Gloucester, Gray, Raymond, Poland, Auburn, Pownal and North Yarmouth assisted at the scene.
