RUMFORD — Police are seeking help from the public to find a missing 3-year-old girl, Kylee Morin of Rumford and her 1-year-old brother, Shawn Konopka.
On Thursday, the children and their mother, Elsa Konopka, 22, failed to appear for a scheduled visit with workers from the state Department of Health and Human Services.
On Saturday, Rumford police sought help from the public to find the still-missing children, who live on Franklin Street under the legal guardianship of DHHS.
“We’re trying to make sure children are safe,” police Sgt. Douglas Maifeld said in a news release Saturday afternoon.
Kylee has blond hair, stands 3 feet tall and weighs 45 pounds. Shawn has blond hair and blue eyes.
Neighbors last saw Elsa Konopka on Monday. They said said she was alone, picked up her belongings and left in a light-colored station wagon with unknown plates driven by an adult black male, Maifeld said.
Konopka has ties to Lewiston and family in the New Vineyard area.
Maifeld said late Saturday that he has spoken with Elsa’s mother, who is working with police.
“We are continuing to follow up on leads,” Maifeld said. “The children are our major concern.”
People are encouraged to call Rumford police at 364-4551 or a local law enforcement agency with any information relevant to the case.
