PARIS — Oxford Street will be closed to traffic Tuesday, Nov. 18, for repairs to a railroad track crossing.
Town Manager Amy Bernard confirmed the closure in an email Friday after meeting with rail owners St. Lawrence and Atlantic. The company initially wanted to repair crossings on Prospect Avenue, Hathaway Road — which lacks an additional egress and therefore can’t be closed — and High Street, whose repairs fall under the jurisdiction of the Maine Department of Transportation and will be repaired next spring, Bernard said.
“It’s been an ongoing complaint since I’ve started here that the railroad crossings in town are all in really bad shape,” Bernard said.
Repairs will close down Oxford Street for most of the day. Workers are expected to begin after school buses pick up students, and finish around 4 p.m.
The company will place railroad signs at each end of Oxford Street and near Rugg Fields for motorists to better manage the detour, Bernard said.
