RUMFORD — Police said a Bethel man was seriously injured Monday morning when his car slammed into a utility pole beside Route 2.

Christopher Leclair, 35, was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston after undergoing emergency surgery at Rumford Hospital, Rumford officer Matthew Desroches said.

Leclair was driving east at 7:01 a.m. when he lost control of his 1999 Honda Civic and the driver’s door hit the utility pole.

“Leclair was trapped in his vehicle and couldn’t be removed, so the Rumford Fire Department was dispatched and they extricated him,” Desroches said.

“There was snow falling at the time of the accident, so I’m guessing that the road conditions had a large part to play in the accident,” he said.

Leclair was alone in the car, he said.
