WINTHROP (AP) — Police say a Winthrop man used Build-A-Bear Workshop gift cards he stole during a burglary to buy his wife a stuffed animal.

Justin Lebourdais is charged with burglary and theft in connection with a Dec. 19 break-in in which a handgun, jewelry, and electronics were also taken.

The thief also made off with eight Build-A-Bear gift cards worth a combined $125.

The Kennebec Journal (http://bit.ly/1xNmK6R ) reported that the victim called police three days after the burglary to report that five of the gift cards had been used. The company, cooperating with police, said the cards were used online to buy a bear that was addressed to Lebourdais’ wife.

The 29-year-old Lebourdais remains in jail after an initial court appearance last week.
