POLAND — Senior forward Alan Young drained 21 points to lead Poland to a 58-47 victory over Old Orchard Beach in WMC boys’ basketball action Thursday.

Young scored 10 points in the first quarter to give the Knights (4-5) an early four-point lead. Adam Mocciola netted four field goals, including three from 3-point range, to contribute 12 points for Poland.

Junior guard Zach Hirst recorded a team-leading 16 points to support the Seagulls (3-4) in the losing effort.

Mountain Valley 55, Lisbon 47

RUMFORD — Mountain Valley survived a late push by Lisbon to secure a 55-47 triumph in boys’ basketball action Thursday.

The Falcons (6-5) led 28-17 at the half, and added another seven to their lead in the third quarter. Tom Marshall and Caleb Gauvin shared a team-high 14 points each for Mountain Valley.

The Greyhounds (3-8) attempted a sprint from 18-points down in the final quarter, but only managed to shrink the deficit by 10 at the final buzzer. Johnny Yim shot a game-high 15 points for Lisbon.

Pine Tree 57, Buckfield 49

FREEPORT — Senior forward JP Tshamala tossed a nifty 27 points to lead Pine Tree Academy to a 57-49 victory over Buckfield in boys’ basketball action Thursday.

Tshamala posted 21 of his 27 points in the second half for the Breakers (3-5). Chris Wilday collected another 17 points in the contest for Pine Tree Academy.

Senior guard Jared Eastman provided a team-high 17 points for the Bucks (2-8).

Skowhegan 50, Mt. Blue 33

FARMINGTON — Junior guard Isaac Witham posted a team-high 16 points in a balan ced attack as Skowegan chopped their way to a 50-33 victory over Mt. Blue in KVAC boys’ basketball action Thursday.

The Indians took a 26-18 hafltime lead. In a surprisingly defensive third quarter, Skowhegan bested the Cougars 6-1 before adding to their lead in the fourth on free throws.

Dequan Frost contributed 11 points for Skowhegan.

Sophomore point guard Zack Mittelstadt notched a game-high 19 points for Mt. Blue.

Lewiston 64, Lawrence 53

FAIRFIELD — After sprinting out to a 12-point lead in the first frame, Lewiston hustled to a 64-53 victory over Lawrence in a mid-season KVAC boys’ tilt Thursday.

Isiah Harris led the Blue Devils (6-4) with 15 points, while Tykeem Gaines tallied 12 and Ace Curry added 10.

The Bulldogs (2-8) were paced by Seth Powers with a game-high 18 points, while Dustin Simpson-Bragg chipped in with 13.

Cape Elizabeth 71, Gray-NG 58

CAPE ELIZABETH — Cape Elizabeth went on a 28-14 fourth-quarter run and came away with a 71-58 win over Gray-New Gloucester in a hard-fought WMC boys’ contest Thursday.

Ethan Murphy and Eddie Galvin led the Capers (7-2) with 16 points each, while Justin Gurette chipped in with 12.

The Patriots (4-5) were paced by JT Magno with a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Andreas Kariotis tallied 15 points and hauled down 12 rebounds. Tyler St. Pierre also contributed with 10 points, highlighted by three shots from beyond the arc.

Boys’ hockey

Edward Little 8, Mt. Ararat 0

BRUNSWICK — Max Giard netted a hat trick Thursday as Edward Little skated to a 8-0 victory over Mt. Ararat in Eastern Class A hockey action at Bowdoin College.

Eli McBride added a single goal, with Giard’s first two tallies in the first period to give the Red Eddies (4-4) a 3-0 lead after the first stanza. Giard netted his third goal in the second frame, while Ryan Raby, Liam Benson, Cade Chapman and McBride all added goals in the third to complete the scoring.

Devin Dumont made 15 saves for Edward Little, while John Roux turned aside 26 shots between the pipes for Mt. Ararat.

St. Dom’s 4, Greely 3 (OT)

FALMOUTH — Senior right wing Caleb Labrie scored the game-winning goal in overtime as St. Dom’s skated to a 4-3 victory over Greely in boys’ ice hockey action Thursday at the Family Ice Center in Falmouth.

Sophomore left wing Noah Toussaint picked up a shot from the point and fed Labrie six minutes into the overtime frame for the Saints (5-1-1). Labrie converted the relay by burying the puck into the back of the net. Toussaint assisted on both of Labrie’s goals.

Austin Ray scored both of the Rangers (1-7-1) third period goals to send the game into overtime.

Girls’ basketball

Gray-NG 54, Cape Elizabeth 46

GRAY — Skye Conley led a trio of players in double figures as Gray-New Gloucester rolled to a 54-46 win over Cape Elizabeth in a WMC girls’ basketball tilt Thursday.

Conley led the undefeated Patriots (9-0) with 16 points, while Zoe Adams tallied 11 and Grace Kariotis added 10.

The Capers (5-3) were paced by Montana Braxton with a game-high 19 points, while Hannah Sawyer chipped in with 12 and Maddie Bowie added 10.

Hall-Dale 39, Mt. Abram 21

SALEM — After building a 20-point advantage in the first half, Hall-Dale cruised to a 39-21 victory over Mt. Abram in a mid-season MVC matchup Thursday.

Thea Sweet led the Bulldogs (6-3) with 12 points, while Nicole Pelletier chipped in with eight.

Olivia Ryan paced the Roadrunners (1-9) with 16 points, their only player in double figures.

Mt. Blue 55, Skowhegan 22

SKOWHEGAN — Addie Brinkman poured 13 points into the net Thursday to propel Mt. Blue to a 55-22 rout over Skowhegan in a mid-season KVAC girls’ contest.

Eryn Doiron chipped in for the Cougars (6-3) with 12 points in what was essentially a two-player attack.

Skowhegan was paced by Tracey Swanson with a solid eight-point effort, while Lindsey Warren chipped in with six.

Mountain Valley 47, Lisbon 29

RUMFORD — After building a five-point lead in the first half, Mountain Valley stayed on the gas during the final minutes and notched a 47-29 win over Lisbon Thursday evening.

Ashley Russell led the Falcons (6-4) with 12 points, while Sydney Petrie chipped in with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Karen Flaherty also contributed with 11 points in a well-balanced attack.

The struggling Greyhounds (2-8) were led by Bre Sautter with a solid 12-point performance, their only player in double figures.

Pine Tree 63, Buckfield 37

FREEPORT — Freshman guard Alex Goodman scored a whopping 29 points to lead Pine Tree Academy to a 63-37 victory over Buckfield in girls’ basketball action Thursday.

The Breakers (7-1) led by just five at halftime, But Goodman stepped up the offense in the second half, garnering 21 of her 29 points in the stanza.

Allison Verrill contributed eight field goals for 16 points for Pine Tree Academy.

Junior forward Alexis Bennett paced the Bucks (5-5) with a team-leading 13 points, while Ashley Campbell added 10 points.

Lawrence 63, Lewiston 46

LEWISTON — Junior guard Dominique Lewis twirled 23 points to propel Lawrence to a 63-46 victory over Lewiston in KVAC girls’ basketball action Thursday.

The Bulldogs (10-0) came out strong in the first quarter for a 20-6 lead.

Nia Irving contributed 17 points for Lawrence.

The Blue Devils (1-9) salvaged some dignity in the fourth quarter with a 21-16 run. Junior guard Kristina Blais recorded a team-high 19 points for Lewiston.

Oxford Hills 56, Mt. Ararat 30

PARIS — Anna Winslow tabulated a game-high 17 points to lead Oxford Hills to a 56-30 triumph over Mt. Ararat in girls’ basketball action Thursday.

The Vikings steamed to a 21-7 first quarter lead.

Tianna Sugars contributed 13 points, while Mikayla Morin added 11 for Oxford Hills.

Allison Melcher provided a team-leading 14 points for the Eagles.
