HARTFORD — Selectmen received a report from the Department of Environmental Protection last week concerning brush and trees cleared from an old railroad bed near the recreation trail.
The DEP was told about concerns over the number of trees cut.
The town was trimming brush in the area, but also cut down several trees, an action challenged by the Recreation Committee.
After inspecting the site, the DEP determined that while a few trees were cut that should not have been, the rest of the cutting was fine.
The Recreation Committee will be responsible for future brush cutting.
In other business, the town has installed a camera in the salt and sand shed to try and cut down on sand being taken illegally. A few buckets are permissible for residents, but not truckloads.
Town Clerk Lianne Bedard was appointed registrar of voters and Diane Lyons Segee and Margo Dudley were appointed ballot clerks.
The annual town meeting was scheduled for Saturday, June 13, with elections to be held Tuesday, June 9.
The town will elect one selectman, a Regional School Unit 10 board member and a road commissioner.
The Union School clothing center will be closed until spring, according to the deacons at the Hartford Community Church, who sponsor the center.
