LEWISTON — Councilors at Tuesday’s workshop meeting looked at a plan calling for $63 million in projects, purchases and improvements to the city and schools over the next four years.
It includes an estimated $12 million for the 2015-16 fiscal year from city, school, water and sewer district bonds, as well as general budgets.
Councilors and members of the Planning Board and Finance Committee received printed copies of the plan to take home and study.
Finance Director Heather Hunter said the entire plan should be posted to her department’s page on the city’s website Wednesday morning.
“So I will be working from a cliff notes version of the plan tonight,” she said.
Councilors will take up the capital projects plan again at a Feb. 3 public hearing. It also will be reviewed by the Planning Board and Finance Committee. The City Council is scheduled to adopt the plan by Feb. 17.
The plan is not a spending plan but a to-do list of city purchases, Hunter said. It can be adjusted now, delaying some projects or purchases. Staff uses the plan to assess council priorities and to help build the fiscal year 2015-16 budget.
The plan calls for setting aside $350,000 this year for Lewiston’s share of a new parking lot at the Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport.
The cites also would split the $2 million cost of replacing radios for the Twin Cities’ Lewiston-Auburn 911 emergency dispatch center.
Public works projects include paving Lisbon Street, $1.1 million in work on River Road south of Lincoln Street, $931,000 in work on Main Street, $500,000 earmarked for Riverfront Island improvements and $1.8 million worth of equipment replacements in Lewiston’s garages.
The plan also calls for $4.4 million in work at schools, including $3.2 million from the state to build a school.
