WILTON — Slippery roads caused a tractor-trailer to jackknife, closing a portion of Route 2 near Pond Road for about an hour Monday morning.

Route 2 was like a sheet of ice at approximately 8 a.m. when Peter Perry, 48, of Augusta was driving a Mac tractor-trailer, Wilton police officer Derek Daley said.

The tractor-trailer slid off the road and jackknifed, blocking Route 2, he said.

The Maine Department of Transportation was called to treat the road. An area of Route 2, heading west from Lakeview Cemetery, was in extremely bad shape, Daley said.

The vehicle, owned by Ashman Transport LLC of Chelsea, suffered little damage, and the driver was not injured.

Wilton police responded to three accidents within a two-hour span from around 7 to 9 a.m. Monday. Road conditions caused drivers to slide off the road.

No one was injured in the accidents and the vehicles received minor damage, he said.
