RUMFORD — Their destinations will be the police and fire departments, the post office, the hospital and several businesses in town. Their deliveries? Cookies and gratitude for the individuals who strive to make Rumford a great place to live each day.

As part of Maine Catholic Schools Week (Jan. 25-31), students at Holy Savior Catholic School in Rumford will leave the school, at 115 Maine Ave., at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, and stop at many local organizations for a “Cookie Drop Off” to show their appreciation for public servants and other community leaders.

“The cookies were made by our parents,” said Barbara Pelletier, principal at Holy Savior Catholic School. “We hope that the children learn to appreciate and be thankful for what others do for them and their families, and increase their social and personal responsibility as members of our community.”

The service project is part of the annual Maine Catholic Schools Week which celebrates the mission of Catholic Schools: to evangelize students by nourishing faith and encouraging academic excellence while accentuating the importance of community and service in a nurturing environment.

Special events and fun activities are planned for the students throughout the week, including a school spirit day and a trip to Black Mountain for skiing and tubing.
