1924 – 2015

LEWISTON — Robert J. Begin, 91, of Arundel Drive in Lisbon, died Monday, Jan. 26, at Central Maine Medical Center, with his family by his side.

Born in Auburn on Jan. 14, 1924, a son of the late Pierre and Rose Delima Fournier Begin, he was educated in Auburn schools. He was married to the former Juliette Dumais on Aug. 31, 1946; she died Feb. 21, 2005.

Robert was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at Holy Family Church and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked at C & H Cleaners for 35-plus years, Beals Cleaners, Fordland and Bates College, retiring at the age of 71 .

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 106, and a 4th Degree Monsignor Thomas J. Wallace Assembly.

He enjoyed watching his four great-grandchildren play hockey, coffee with “the guys” at Tim Horton’s, cars and trucks, word searches, reading, going out on Saturday evenings after church with friends and family and going to New Hampshire to visit Jeannine’s family (and they loved him). In years past, he enjoyed bowling and playing pinochle.

He loved his wife, Julie, and his family.

He will be remembered for his big, bright smile that everyone loved, his kind and loving personality and his many, many hours of prayer each day.

He is survived by his son, Robert E. Begin and his wife, Jeannine, of Lisbon; two grandsons and their wives, Michael and Lisa Begin of Minot and Gregory and Tina Begin of Lewiston; and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, Emma and Anthony Begin.

He was also predeceased by eight brothers.

The family wishes to thank all the doctors and nurses at CMMC for taking excellent care of Dad each and every time he had to go there, his personal doctors (especially Dr. James Joseph), Marshwood for all of the good care he received while there for rehabilitation and all of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for excellent home care.
