FRYEBURG — Police will be closing one lane of traffic on Route 302 at 5 p.m. Friday from Fryeburg Academy to Bradley Park.
The closure is for an event organized by friends of Jody Buzzell to support the Buzzell children and remember the woman who was killed earlier this week in a domestic violence incident.
Police say Mark Buzzell, 52, fatally shot his wife Jody, also 52, Monday afternoon at their West Fryeburg Road home and then turned the gun killing himself.
Friday night’s event is a walk from Fryeburg Academy to Bradley Park where friends, family, and supporters will gather. Participants are asked to wear purple and bring a candle or flash light.
“I hope we can get people from young to old to participate. Jody would want us to heal our wounded hearts. By gathering in solidarity, we are beginning the long journey of healing,” said event organizer Mary Bastoni.
Fryeburg Police Chief Joshua Potvin said his department supports the event that raises awareness for domestic violence and will continue to assist victims with the resources they need and to hold abusers accountable.
“It saddens me that Mr. Buzzell reached a point where he felt this was his only option. I wish there was more we could have done to prevent this from happening. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the Buzzell Family and all of those members of the community touched by this tragic event,” Potvin said in a statement issued Friday morning.
