OXFORD — Fire broke out in a home on Rowe Lane when  heat from a hair dryer used to warm a frozen pipe caught an exterior wall on fire Thursday night.

According to Fire Chief Scott Hunter, the fire started on an exterior wall of a 1½-story house at 67 Rowe Lane, off Rabbit Valley Road, at 10:50 p.m.

The home is owned by Charles and Thoma Rowe.

The owner’s mother and her caretaker were home at the time of the fire and escaped unharmed.

Firefighters had to take down a section of the exterior wall to get at the fire when flames entered a closet and the bathroom on the first floor.

Damage was estimated at between $5,000 and $6,000.

The wall was repaired, and the family was able to remain in the house.
