ALFRED (AP) — A New Hampshire man authorities say broke into a home in Maine where he shot his wife and the homeowner is now facing an attempted murder charge.

The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/1Azlyb9 ) reported that Gregory Owens of Londonderry, N.H., was ordered held on $2 million bail at an appearance Thursday in York County Superior Court.

Authorities say the 58-year-old Army veteran broke into the Saco home of Steve and Carol Chabot on Dec. 18 wearing a ski mask and armed with a 9 mm pistol. He then allegedly shot his wife, Rachel Owens, a guest in the home, three times. Steve Chabot was also shot three times. Both survived.

Prosecutors say Owens was having an affair, and the woman had threatened to tell his wife.

His attorney requested $10,000 bail.
