BETHEL — Tom Marshall notched a game-high 12 points to lead Moutain Valley to a 43-38 victory over Telstar in MVC boys’ basketball action Friday evening to proceed into playoffs.

The Falcons (9-9) led 25-17 at the break.

The Rebels (6-12) were given an opportunity late in the game when Jarrett Bean tied the game at 37-37. But a technical foul by Telstar and the Falcons shoring up their offense down the stretch secured the win for Mountain Valley.

Senior guard Maverik Griffin led the Rebels’ (6-12) offense with 10 points.

Girls’ basketball

Mountain Valley 51, Telstar 30

BETHEL — Junior forward Sydney Petrie scored a game-high 13 points to lead Mountain Valley to a 51-30 victory over Telstar in MVC girls’ basketball action Friday.

The Rebels (0-18) stayed in the hunt in the first half, trailing by just four, 25-21, at halftime. Junior forward Becca Howard recorded 12 points, while Blair Stevens chipped in with 11 points for Telstar.

The Falcons (13-9) soared in the third quarter with a 17-2 run. Emily Laubauskas and Tori Ryerson contributed 10 points each for Mountain Valley.

Madison 50, Monmouth 45

MONMOUTH — Aly LeBlanc drained 17 points as Madison pulled away in the last minutes to take a 50-45 victory over Monmouth in girls’ basketball action Friday.

The Mustangs (13-5) led 29-24 at the half. Maddie Amero was the only Monmouth player to score into double digits with 14 points.

The Bulldogs (9-8) paced themselves evenly across the quarters, which paid off in the end. Their defense helped them pull away down the stretch with an 11-3 fourth quarter.

Kayla Bess contributed 16 points, while Madeline Wood added 12 points for Madison.

Unified basketball

Lisbon 38, Oxford Hills 25

PARIS — Jake Patenaude scored 14 points to lead Lisbon to a 38-25 victory over Oxford hills in unified basketball action Friday.

The Greyhounds (2-1) received offensive support from Robert Wood, who had 10 points in the contest.

The Vikings (0-1) were paced by Matt Smith with 14 points.

Men’s basketball

UMF 69, Lyndon State 65

FARMINGTON — Nick Hilton scored a game-high 24 points and hauled down 11 rebounds to lead the University of Maine at Farmington to a 69-65 victory over Lyndon State College in men’s basketball action Friday.

The Beavers (5-15) fought back from an eight-point deficit in the first half to claim an eight-point lead at the midpoint. Uriah Forest-Bulley contributed a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds for Farmington.

Avery King attempted to get the Hornets (7-12) back into the game in the second half, nailing five 3-pointers. But, with a minute remaining, the Beavers held a three-point lead and the Hornets were forced to foul. Farmington hit all six free throws in the last thirty seconds.

Bates 70, Williams 68

LEWISTON — The Bates men’s basketball team remains undefeated at home with a 70-68 victory over Williams College Friday evening.

Graham Safford produced 21 points, eight assists and seven rebounds for the Bobcats (16-4), while Mike Boornazian and Malcolm Delpeche added 13 points apiece.

Malcolm Delpeche also contributed six rebounds and four blocks, while twin brother Marcus Delpeche pitched in with eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

Hayden Rooke-Ley shot 9-for-13 from the field, including 6-of-8 from three-point range to score a game-high 28 points for the Ephs (11-9).

Women’s basketball

UMF 69, Lyndon State 59

FARMINGTON — Meghan Smith’s second consecutive double-double led the University of Maine at Farmington to a regular season sweep over rival Lyndon State College with a 69-59 victory in women’s basketball action Friday evening.

Smith powered the Beavers (9-11) with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Lindsay Ranquist added 13 points and six rebounds.

The Hornets led by as many as six points in the opening nine minutes. But, Farmington kept hitting the needed jump shots to keep the game close until Bianca Stoutamyer nailed a 3-pointer to tie the game at 24-24.

Though Lyndon State had a four-point lead at intermission, Farmington was poised to turn up their defense and execute on offense over the final two quarters.

Williams 71, Bates 37

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Williams College got at least one point from all 12 players as it defeated Bates College 71-37 in NESCAC women’s basketball action Friday evening.

Amanni Fernandez, who had 10 points, staked the Ephs (17-4) to a 15-point lead at halftime, twice stealing passes after failed Williams possessions and converting them into easy buckets.

While the Bobcats (9-11) out-rebounded the Ephs 21-14 in the first half, just three of those were offensive boards, a reflection of the rotating contributions from Katie Litman, Oge Uwanaka and Kellie Macdonald.
