BIDDEFORD — JD Hodsdon had a goal and an assist to lead the St. Dominic Academy Saints to a 3-0 victory over the Thornton Academy Golden Trojans.

Brad Berube and Noah Toussaint also scored for the Saints (12-2-1) while Nathan and Cooper Richards had an assist each.

Alex Michuad made 14 saves for the shutout while Andrew Huot stopped 30 shots in the losing effort for Thornton (2-11).

Boys’ hockey

Lake Region/Oxford Hills/Fryeburg Academy 2, Poland/Gray-New Gloucester/Oak Hill 1

BRIDGTON — After two scoreless periods, the Lake Region/Oxford Hills/Fryeburg Academy Ice Cats came away with the 2-1 victory over the Poland/Gray-New Gloucester/Oak Hill 26ers on Saturday.

Peter Misner opened up the scoring 63 seconds into the third period for the Ice Cats (7-6) with the assists going to Evan Kellough and Connor Bickford.

Kellough scored with 2:27 remaining with Noah Smith notching the assist. 

Deryk Belanger scored with one second left for the 26ers (5-8).

David Long made 28 saves in the victory while Nick Hemond stopped 23 in the loss.

Men’s basketball

Bates 73, Hamilton 71

LEWISTON — Billy Selmon stole a pass and streaked down the floor for the go-ahead layup with 26 seconds remaining, and Bates held on for a 73-71 victory over Hamilton College on Saturday afternoon.

Mike Boornazian led the Bobcats (17-4) with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Malcolm Delpeche added 14 points, five rebounds and a pair of blocks.

Hamilton senior guard and leading scorer Jeremy Lin was hurt early in the first half. In his place, freshman guard Jack Dwyer led the Continentals (13-9) with a career-high 15 pionts to go along with six asists and two steals.

Selmon was 0-for-8 from the field going into the final minute of the game before his clutch steal.

UMaine-Farmington 67, Johnson State 52

FARMINGTON — Forward Nick Hilton notched a career-high 27 points to lead the University of Maine at Farmington to a 67-52 victory over Johnson State Saturday afternoon.

Despite never trailing in the contest, the Beavers (6-15) nearly surrendered the lead at the halfway piont in the second half. But, the Beavers closed the game on a 24-10 run to keep its playoffs hopes alive.

Freshman Eric Berry added nine points and six rebounds off the bench for Farmington. Rob Hazard led the Badgers (3-18) with 14 points in the losing effort.

Women’s basketball

UMaine-Farmington 56, Johnson State 47

FARMINGTON — Meghan Smith netted 12 points to lead the University of Maine at Farmington to a 56-47 victory over Johnson State on Saturday afternoon.

The Beavers (10-11) executed a second half comeback with the assistance of three players securing double figures. Kelly Pomerleau scored 11 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out five assists. Lindsay Ranquist added 10 points and four rebounds.

Brittany Robertson notched a game-high 15 points for the Badgers (6-13) on six field goals, including three from 3-point range.

CMCC 81, UMPI 60

PRESQUE ISLE — Gabby Foy drained a game-high 19 points to lead the Central Maine Community College to an 81-60 victory over the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Saturday.

The Mustangs (17-4) did most of their damage in the first half, outscoring the Owls 41-20 in the stanza. Laura Soohey contributed 18 pionts and 12 rebounds for her third straight double-double.

Darby Toth netted a team-leading 17 points for Presque Isle, while Krista Coffin provided 12 points in the losing effort.

2015 Eastern Class A wrestling tourney

PARIS — Malik Geiger of Oxford Hills defeated Brandon Lajoie of Westbrook with a pin at 4:21 in the 182-pound weight class of the 2015 Eastern Class A Wrestling Championships on Saturday. Oxford Hills finished second in team scoring with 128 points, while Skowhegan notched first with 184.5 points.

Dawson Stevens of Oxford Hills defeated Dominick Cancelarich of Windham with a pin at 2:15 in the 145-pound weight class. The fastest pin in the championship finals was in the 113-pound weight class with Samson Sirois of Skowhegan pinning Matthew Hyde of Mt. Blue at 51 seconds.

In the consolation finals, the fastest pin came at 48 seconds as Tre Caudill of Cony defeated Justin David of Oxford Hills in the 126-pound weight class.
