OXFORD — Daddy O’s restaurant on Route 26 is turning to social media to ask customers where the diner should relocate.
The popular eatery must be out of its 901 Main St. premises by mid-April, and is harnessing customer support to gauge where it should land next.
A post on its Facebook page directs respondents to a polling website where they’re asked to rank the options of moving to Norway, Oxford or Poland.
Co-owner Amanda Ouellette said Tuesday that the diner wants to give customers a say on what happens, and how far they’d be willing to drive.
“If we move to Poland, is that feasible?” Ouellette said. “We’ve had people as far away as Raymond and Turner show interest. Our thought is our staff can’t go quite that far, and our staff is what makes us.”
She said about 200 people have taken the survey so far, though the owners haven’t had a chance to process the results. The survey will guide their final decision, she said. They plan to close the poll in a week or so in order to put a relocation plan into motion.
Plans to move into a turnkey site in Norway fell through after another business put a down payment on it, she said.
In an interview Tuesday, building owner Rick Kimball said he had signed an intent of sale form that contractually prohibited him from disclosing details about who will take over. He noted the new occupant would not be a chain restaurant.
Kimball also said he was surprised to read in the Sun Journal that the sale came as a shock to the owners and that they felt they were being forced out. Kimball said it was known by both parties that their lease would run out April 15.
“I had no idea they were trying to buy the building,” Kimball said. “They were great tenants for seven years and there’s no way I would have put them out. As far as I knew, they were trying to find new premises.”
In fairness, Ouellette said she was trying to raise money to buy the building but hadn’t told Kimball about the plans.
“The whole experience is a blessing in disguise,” she said. “We have the opportunity to start with a clean slate.”
