RANGELEY — Despite a 28-15 fourth quarter run by Rangeley, North Yarmouth Academy hung on for a 58-54 victory in a Western Class D boys’ basketball Prelim tilt Wednesday.

Jake Malcom led the Clippers (8-11) with 18 points, while DJ Nicholas chipped in with 10. NYA built a 33-16 advantage in the first half but almost let it slip away.

The Lakers (6-12) were solid with four players in double figures, led by Timmy White with 16 points. Ricky Thompson and Orrin Mitchell each added 13, while Kyle LaRochelle added 12 in a well-balanced attack.

Madison 48, Mountain Valley 38

MADISON — Madison used a 21-15 run in the final frame to notch a 48-38 victory over Mountain Valley in a Western Class C Prelim tussle Wednesday.

Jared Miller led the Bulldogs (16-3) with 14 points, while Derek Leblanc tallied 11 and Chase Malloy added 10.

The Falcons (9-10) were led by Caleb Gauvin with a nine-point effort, while Ryler Flynn chipped in with seven.

Boys’ hockey

Oak Hill 2, Mt. Ararat/Lisbon 1, OT

AUBURN — For the second day in a row, the Poland/Gray-New Gloucester/Oak Hill 26ers and the Mt. Ararat/Lisbon Eagles met in a boys’ hockey matchup. Jason Cote had the game-winner 1:20 into overtime to give the 26ers the season sweep over the Eagles on Wednesday

Ethan Cailler assisted on both goals for the 26ers (7-8) and Isaiah Dubois had a goal and an assist. Nick Hemond made 19 saves for the victory.

Ryley Austin scored for Mt. Ararat/Lisbon (2-14) while John Roux stopped 36 shots in net.

Poland/Gray-NG/ St. Dom’s 5, Cony/Monmouth 1

AUBURN — Brad Berube and Adam Poulin each had two goals and two assists for the St. Dominic Academy Saints as they defeated the Cony/Monmouth Rams 5-1 in a Eastern Maine Class A contest.

Ryan Lutizykowski also scored for the Saints who improve to 13-2-1 on the season. Mitch Lorenz had two assists in the victory while Alex Michaud had nine saves in the victory.

Avery Pomerleau scored the lone goal for the Rams (5-10-0) on the power play and Tom Small made 29 saves.
