PORTLAND (AP) — Chunks of ice described as the size of end tables slid off the roof of a five-story building and crashed through the front and rear windows of a car parked in Portland.

Nobody was in the vehicle Sunday, but owner Adam Sousa says he could have been killed if he had been.

One chunk landed on the passenger side dashboard and almost reached the front passenger seat. The ice was too heavy to lift by hand.

The 28-year-old Sousa tells the Portland Press Herald his insurance will not cover the damage to his 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier with about 80,000 miles.

He says he needs the car to get to his job as a bartender at a restaurant in the city’s Old Port.

Police say the building’s owner won’t be cited.
