PORTLAND –The Good Theater will stage the Maine premiere of Sharr White’s acclaimed play, “The Other Place,”  opening at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 4 and running through March 29.  Good Theater is the professional theater in residence at the St. Lawrence Arts Center, 76 Congress St., Portland.

White’s drama was presented on Broadway to critical acclaim:  “… a haunting drama … so cleverly constructed that the nature and depth of the problem isn’t revealed until the last shattering scene.” —Variety. And  this, from the New York Times: “By the end of Mr. White’s taut drama…the authority that Juliana wears with as much confidence as she does that trim suit has been stripped away, exposing a woman as fragile as a delicate piece of glass and almost as transparent.”

“The Other Place” focuses on Juliana Smithton (Denise Poirier) as a successful neurologist whose life seems to be coming unhinged. Her husband (James Noel Hoban) has filed for divorce, her daughter (Kat Moraros) has eloped with a much older man (Jody McColam) and her own health is in jeopardy. But in this brilliantly crafted work, nothing is as it seems. Piece-by-piece, a mystery unfolds as fact blurs with fiction, past collides with present and the elusive truth about Juliana boils to the surface.

Performances are Wednesday through Sunday, with matinees on the weekends.
