CARTHAGE — Police say a local man was arrested for drug trafficking Friday after he was stopped for speeding and they found drugs in his vehicle. 

John Ellis Sr., 69, was stopped on Route 142 by Maine State Police. Trooper Randy Hall said he smelled marijuana during the traffic stop and searched the vehicle. Police said Hall found marijuana, cocaine and “many assorted” prescription pills, as well as drug paraphernalia and $2,500 in cash.

Police later searched Ellis’ home and said they found cocaine, prescription pills and $3,900 in cash.

Ellis was charged with drug trafficking and was taken to the Franklin County Detention Center, where he was held on $50,000 bail.
