MEXICO — University College at Rumford/Mexico invites the community to attend a video conference from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, as faculty from the University of Maine at Augusta outline local and online opportunities to earn Maine teaching credentials. Anyone considering a career in K-12 Education is invited to attend.

Employment of kindergarten and elementary school teachers is projected to grow 12 percent by 2022. Increases in enrollment as well as declines in student–teacher ratios are fueling this growth, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The University of Maine at Augusta provides pathways to Maine teacher certification in Early Childhood Education (B-5), Early Elementary (K-3), Elementary Education (K-8), Secondary Education (7-12), and Special Education (K-12). The pathways to teacher certification involve courses, portfolio construction, three separate licensure exams, field observation and student teaching.

Coordinator of Teacher Certification, Cindy Dean, and Director of Early Childhood Studies, Pat Clark, will provide an overview of UMA’s certification programs, including career opportunities and available scholarships.

To register for the March 10 video conference, contact University College at Rumford/Mexico at 207-364-7882.
