PORTLAND (AP) — The officer in charge of a Maine-based Coast Guard vessel has been relieved of command after it ran aground.

The Coast Guard said in a statement that Senior Chief Petty Officer Christopher Bouchard has been reassigned.

Bouchard was the officer in charge of the 87-foot Jonesport-based coastal patrol boat Moray when it ran aground Feb. 20. No one on board was injured, and the Moray returned to port safely under its own power. It is being towed to Baltimore for hull repairs.

Bouchard was temporarily relieved of his duties “for loss of confidence in the ability to command,” Coast Guard commanders said in a statement.

The final determination on whether Bouchard will lose or resume command will be made by the commandant of the Coast Guard in Washington.
