PARIS — A convicted sex offender from Greenwood was sentenced to six years in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a minor.

Alden Ralph Mason Jr., 42, pleaded guilty in Oxford County Superior Court to a single count of unlawful sexual contact. In exchange for the plea, three counts of gross sexual assault were dropped.

He is free on $5,000 secured bail until July, when he will begin serving his sentence.

An Oxford County grand jury indicted him in December 2012 on charges of engaging in a sex act with a child younger than 12 years old in Greenwood on three occasions between late October and December 2012. He pleaded not guilty in March 2014.

According to the Maine Sex Offender Registry, Mason was convicted in Cumberland County Superior Court in Portland of gross sexual assault of a child younger than 14 in 1997. He was sentenced to seven years in prison with all but two years suspended.
