HARRISON — Nutrition Aide Karen Toohey of The University of Maine Cooperative Extension will present the second in her series of cooking-related programs, “Cooking with Karen: Label-Reading Basics,” on Wednesday, March 18, at Harrison Village Library.
What should you be looking for on those food labels? What are the current nutritional guidelines? Samples, recipes and advice will be available, and the program will be offered at two different times, at noon and 6 p.m.
This program is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is requested.
Naturalist Chris Lewey will return at 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 16, for the second of three programs he will be offering this spring at the library with a Tree Identification Workshop.
Learn more about the woody plants by looking at the details and differences in strategies of our common deciduous and evergreen trees. This active workshop will offer an introduction on the use of “keys” and some basics for winter tree identification; participants will then work in teams using the keys and identifying specimens.
For more information on either program, or to register for Cooking with Karen, call the library at 583-2970.
