STRATTON — The Canine Companions for Independence arm of Lions Clubs International recently presented the Stratton-Eustis Lions Club with its annual Canine Companions Initiative Award.
Stratton-Eustis was chosen from hundreds of competing clubs from all over the country for this prestigious award.
Last August, the local Lions Club collected $1,900 to help purchase, train and place service dogs with wounded veterans to assist them with their daily tasks. There was a tremendous response from the local community to make the project a huge success.
As a result of this award, the club will be featured in the Canine Companions national magazine this spring and has received a $2,000 cash award to be used for a local community project of its choice.
The club has chosen to use the gift toward the purchase of a new vision screening camera for eye-screening pre-kindergarten children in five area schools.
