AUBURN — Any state transportation topic — from potholes to public commuter services — will be on the table Monday as state officials come to the area for two discussion sessions.

“It’s really to get feedback about what people are thinking regarding transportation, not just now, but 10 years from now,” Ted Talbot, spokesman for the Maine Department of Transportation, said. “It’s all about the full scope of what transportation is and what it will be.”

State officials have plans to meet with residents around the state to talk about transportation issues. The meetings began in late February and have sent Maine Department of Transportation staff to Presque Isle and Skowhegan.

They’ll meet with Twin Cities residents in two sessions Monday, March 23, at the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments offices at 125 Manley Road. The first session is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. and an evening session is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m.

The meetings, so far, have been well attended.

“We’re not just there to get your immediate concerns, but we want to get the long-term concerns,” Talbot said. “In Wiscasset, for example, they have concerns about the downtown and the traffic down there. So oftentimes, these things take on a very localized flavor — and they should. That’s why we’re going to all these separate towns.”

Talbot said the meetings are also a way to highlight the department’s outreach offices. Maine has five of them dedicated to dealing with regional issues. Lewiston-Auburn is part of the Western Region and the office phone number is 207-624-3309.

“Anybody can call them any way with any concerns or any ideas they have,” Talbot said. “But meetings like this are designed to get their mental gears grinding. It’s really about generating ideas as it is looking for solutions.”
