JAY — The Price Is Right Show is coming to Spruce Mountain Middle School at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 21, raising money for field trips, activities and other programs.
Jeff Parsons from Q97.9’s morning radio show will be “Bob Barker” for the night. Assistants will be middle school students, Garret Smith and Cameron Souther.
“It’s worth the time,” Smith said. Two years ago, he decided he wanted to be one of the announcers so he asked if he could help this year.
Souther said it will be fun for every person at any age. “Adults get to play a game and may win prizes if the price is right!” he said.
School Principal Scott Albert said the boys are active with drama at the school. “They already have stage presence. It’s a good fit for them,” he said.
This will be the ninth year for the Price Is Right in the area. It began at Livermore Falls Middle School.
“It was such a good fundraiser, it was kept going,” Albert said.
Albert was an assistant principal at the Elm Street School in Mechanic Falls years ago when parents and teachers there hosted the fundraising game. Word got out about how successful it was and people from SAD 36 visited to learn more before starting their own version. With Albert now a part of Regional School Unit 73, “it’s come full circle,” he said.
In all, eight games will be played. Plinko, Punch Out, and Cliff Hanger are three big ones and there will also be a showcase showdown. Albert said there will be two showcases to bid on. Anything not won will be included in a live auction immediately following the show. “Everything goes,” Albert said.
Several raffles, a silent auction, and a 50/50 raffle will be held during the evening as well. It is expected that a Kindle Fire or similar item will be given as a door prize to one lucky attendee. Children with tickets who are too young to play in the Price Is Right game will be able to select an item from the children’s table.
“More than $8,000 worth of donations have come in so far,” Albert said. All donations go toward the show. Gift baskets and Disney passes are among the donated items.
Tickets are $6 each and may be purchased in advance at any of the RSU 73 offices or at the door. For more information, call Spruce Mountain Middle School at 897-4319.
