LEWISTON — A man accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend on Bartlett Street on Wednesday remained jailed a day later.
Joshua Blackman, 29, of 87 Bartlett St., was being held on $10,060 bail Thursday at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn. Charged with elevated aggravated assault, criminal threatening and domestic assault, Blackman is expected to make an initial court appearance Friday.
Police said Blackman stabbed 38-year-old Melissa Degrace in the ribs during an argument at about 5 p.m. Wednesday outside Blackman’s apartment. Investigators said Degrace had gone there to meet Blackman and another man, but an argument ensued and Blackman pulled a knife.
Degrace’s lungs were pierced, police said. She was taken to Central Maine Medical Center where she remained Thursday. Hospital officials did not release her condition, although police said Degrace is expected to survive.
Blackman has a criminal history of domestic violence, according local court records.
The alleged assault remained under investigation.
