HARRISON — Fire destroyed a mobile home on Plains Road early Friday morning, sending a couple to the hospital.

Crews from more than a half-dozen departments battled the 1:30 a.m. fire, but Harrison fire Chief Dana LaPlante said the damage was so extensive, the cause may never be known.

LaPlante said James and Sandy Ryman made it out of their burning home, but each required medical treatment — James Ryman for smoke inhalation and his wife for an arm injury. The pair were later released from the hospital.

Firefighters arriving at the scene found flames already shooting out the back of the home, officials said. After the blaze was brought under control, the State Fire Marshal’s Office sent an investigator to help search for the cause. By Friday night, the cause remained unknown.

LaPlante said all indications are that the fire started in the den of the home, which was considered a total loss.
