FARMINGTON — The Board of Selectmen has awarded a bid for a new police cruiser and has authorized the town’s plumbing inspector to take a contractor to court.

The board unanimously approved a bid of $25,600 for a 2015 Ford Police Interceptor from Quirk Ford in Augusta during Tuesday’s meeting.

Five auto dealers responded to the eight bid requests sent out for a sport utility vehicle with four-wheel or all-wheel drive options, police Chief Jack Peck told the board

Quirk was the lowest bidder. An Interceptor is a police-rated vehicle with a heavier suspension, he said of his recommendation.

Other bids included 2016 Interceptors from MHQ for $26,098, Farmington Ford for $27,927 and $26,885 from Bailey Brothers. O’Connor bid $32,899 for a 2015 Tahoe, Peck said.

In other business, Plumbing Inspector Richard Marble received board approval to continue court action against a contractor who failed to obtain a permit or call for inspections before installing a sewer system on a Voter Hill property.

A Franklin County Superior Court corrective action order from Feb. 10 ordered Teague Adams, doing business as A&H Properties of Winthrop, to pay a double permit fee of $530 within 30 days, Marble said.

Adams agreed to pay and sent a check, but it was returned for insufficient funds.

“He hasn’t done anything he said he would do,” Marble said.

Marble inspected the system in December at the request of the property owner and found several violations.

The new septic tank was put in the wrong location. The distribution box was smaller than plans indicated and was put in backward, Marble said in letter to the owner. Also, the old system was damaged in the process.

The owner is out the $11,000 he has paid so far, Marble said.

The court also could impose fines of $100 to $2,500 for each day since the system was installed in October, he said.

The board also elected new officers following Monday’s annual town meeting. Joshua Bell was elected chairman; Stephan Bunker, vice chairman; and Andrew Buckland, board secretary.
