LEWISTON — A 16-year-old boy was arrested in Lewiston on Wednesday afternoon and charged in the stabbing death of a Troy man last month.
Police have been investigating the death of Steven Hodgdon, 49, since his body was discovered inside his home March 8. Nearly a month later, investigators tracked their suspect to Lewiston and made the arrest, charging the Lewiston teen with murder and taking him to the Waldo County Jail in Belfast.
Because of the suspect’s age, police did not identify him, nor did they say how he was connected to the dead man. According to earlier police reports, Hodgdon had been living with his teenage son at 188 Rutland Road in Troy when Hodgdon was stabbed in the chest. Police interviewed the son, who went to live with relatives, according to Maine State Police spokesman Stephen McCausland.
The teen charged Wednesday will make his first court appearance Thursday or Friday in a Belfast courtroom. His name may be made public through court records after he appears in court.
Investigators have conducted numerous interviews, reviewed evidence from the Maine State Police crime lab and consulted with the Attorney General’s and Medical Examiner’s offices over the past month.
Until the arrest on Wednesday, police had not released a cause of death in the Hodgdon slaying. According to a news release, the cause of death has been classified as homicide as a result of a stabbing.
