MEXICO — Police Chief Roy Hodsdon said officers arrested a teenage boy who ran amok with a survival knife last week, and two teenage girls in a bullying and assault incident Wednesday.

Hodsdon said he received a call at 12:20 p.m. March 26 from a Roxbury Road resident, saying her 17-year-old brother had a knife and was destroying her property. Hodsdon and officer Rob Drouin responded.

“When we arrived, the subject had sliced several tires on her truck and put the knife through the hood of her vehicle, and also attempted to cut the propane gas line to the residence with the knife,” Hodsdon said.

The teen had also destroyed items in the house with the knife and made threats, he said.

“We arrested him on (felony) charges of aggravated criminal mischief — the damage was estimated at well over $3,000, easily — and criminal threatening with a dangerous knife,” he said.

Hodsdon said the survival knife was so sharp and that just the weight of it being wielded violently made 2- to 3-inch-wide holes in the truck’s hood.

Hodsdon said the teen wasn’t on drugs.

“He was just having a bad day,” he said. “He was cooperative when we got there. He put his hands up. He had gotten rid of the knife before we got there, so he made the right decisions and made our arrival on the scene a little easier.”

The teen was taken to the crisis center at Rumford Hospital, Hodsdon said, but he didn’t know what happened to him after that point.

On Wednesday, Hodsdon responded to a school-related bullying and assault complaint and arrested a 14-year-old Rumford girl and a 15-year-old Mexico girl on charges of criminal threatening, he said.

“It stems from a bullying incident that’s been occurring and an assault case that I received, and so after the investigation, two of them, so far, have been charged with that,” Hodsdon said.

“It was a school-related incident,” he said. “The case is still ongoing, and I anticipate bringing more charges against others. The school is trying to stop this.”

The girls were released to their parents and will be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. June 2 in juvenile court at 11th District Court.
