AUBURN — A 3D printer and a collection of other cool technologies that make up the Maine State Petting Zoo will be coming to the Auburn Public Library for a few days beginning Wednesday.

Jared Leadbetter, Maine State Library’s technology coordinator, will bring the 3D printer and a collection of tablets and e-readers to Auburn on April 8. The Maine State Petting Zoo is a collection of high-tech gadgets and gear that can be loaned out to libraries around Maine.

So far, the collection includes tablet computers, e-readers, a few robots and the 3D printers, which allow people to make small plastic objects they’ve designed on a computer.

Mamie Anthoine Ney, director of the Auburn Public Library said Leadbetter will offer a public demonstration of the gear at 11 a.m. Staff training takes place before that.

The tablets and e-readers will be available to the public through April 15. Library visitors can try one of the gadgets and get staff help using and understanding them.
