SKOWHEGAN — State, local and federal law enforcement officials executed three search warrants in Somerset County on Thursday and Friday, seizing heroin, prescription drugs, cocaine and a weapon and charged eight people on various drug charges and warrants.

At about 8:15 a.m. Thursday, two teams of deputies from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, along with members of the Waterville Police Department and federal Drug Enforcement Agency, executed search warrants at the Detroit home of Raymond K. Ferris and the Palmyra home of Warren LaPrell and Roni Twitchell, according to a release from Sagadahoc County Sheriff Dale P. Lancaster.

Officers reported they seized $4,000 worth of street drugs from Ferris’ home, including more than 100 30-milligram oxycodone pills, 17 bags of heroin, marijuana, prescription pills, “a large amount of drug-related paraphernalia” used to process and inject illicit drugs, and $594 in cash.

Ferris, 59, who was convicted on federal drug charges in 2006, was charged with Class A aggravated trafficking in Schedule W drugs, Class B Trafficking in Schedule W drugs and two Class C counts of possession of a Schedule W drug. The charges were elevated due to the prior federal drug conviction as well as the quantity of drugs seized, Lancaster said.

Also arrested were Amber Curtis, 23, Cassandra Howard-Shaw, 24, and Matthew Flood, 29, all of Newport, on outstanding warrants.

Two other people were searched and released from the home.

Additional charges are expected, according to Lancaster.

In October 2006, Ferris pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute more than $111,000 worth of cocaine and was sentenced to more than four years in federal prison, the Bangor Daily News reported at the time.

A search of the Palmyra residence on Thursday morning allegedly turned up more than $9,000 worth of street drugs, including 240 oxycodone pills, 24 bags of heroin, marijuana, a small amount of cocaine, a loaded .25 semiautomatic pistol, drug-related paraphernalia and $346 in cash.

Police charged Warren LaPrell, 52, with Class B trafficking in a schedule W drug and two counts of Class C possession of a schedule W drug.

Roni Twitchell, 47, was charged with misdemeanor possession of a schedule W drug.

At 8:15 a.m. Friday, a search warrant was executed at the St. Albans home of John Tripp, where officers reported they found 111 pills, including 27 oxycodone pills, as well as hashish, hashish oil, marijuana and drug-related paraphernalia. The approximate street value of the drugs is $1,000, according to Lancaster.

Further charges are expected against Tripp because he was on administrative release through the district attorney’s office for 2014 drug-related convictions, Lancaster wrote.

Also arrested was Tony Dimeo, 34, of Dixmont on an outstanding warrant related to a previous drug conviction.

The Maine State Police and Newport Police Department also assisted in the investigation.
