LEWISTON — A police survey aimed at gathering input on law enforcement matters has moved from the front stoop to social media.

Lewiston police are inviting comments on their Facebook page as a means of collecting as much information as possible.

Students from Central Maine Community College have been going door to door the past few weeks to help police gather opinions on crime and other issues.

The students from the criminal justice program are asking people across the city to fill out surveys that will help police identify problems.

The survey is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods. According to Community Resource Officer Joseph Philippon, Lewiston residents will be asked for their views on what they see as the most pressing problems vexing the city and how they feel about the results of programs such as Operation Hot Spots, among other things.

Residents also will be given an opportunity to provide feedback on issues not specifically addressed in the survey.
