PORTLAND (AP) — A 54-year-old man is dead after he fell from his third-floor apartment balcony while smoking a cigarette.

Portland police say it happened Wednesday afternoon while he was leaning against a balcony railing. It gave way, sending the Portland man into a back yard.

Investigators aren’t releasing the man’s identity until his family is notified.

Police continue to investigate the death.
