AUBURN — Area youth who may be considering a career in law enforcement are invited to attend the Auburn Police Department’s Cadet Program open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 29.

It will be held at Auburn Hall, on the second floor in the community room. Light refreshments will be served.

Attendees will meet with police Chief Phil Crowell and program advisers. They can talk with current and past cadets, and apply for and interview for the program.

People of high moral character between the ages of 14 and 21 are eligible to apply. All applicants must have graduated or about to graduate from middle school. A police background check and personal interview are part of the application process.

“We are exceptionally proud of our Cadet Program,” Crowell said. “It is a chance for teens to explore a career in law enforcement. They learn — directly from our officers — what it means to protect and serve.”

Participants will also learn to help others, serve the community, develop leadership skills, build physical and mental fitness, gain career and personal skills and have fun.

The cadet program began in 2007, and past cadets have gone on to pursue successful careers in local and federal law enforcement and serve in the military. Two of the Auburn Police Department’s current patrol officers are former members of the Cadet Program.
