PARIS — Oxford Hills knocked in runs in the fourth and fifth innings Monday to sneak past Brunswick, 5-2, in a KVAC baseball tilt.
Jake Spinhirn led the Vikings (2-1) with two hits and one run scored, while Aiden Heikkonen earned the mound win.
The Dragons (2-1) were paced by John Parker with a pair of hits. Parker also suffered the loss after six innings on the hill.
St. Dom’s 11, Telstar 1
AUBURN — Caleb Labrie ignited an 11-run first inning for St. Dom’s as the Saints rolled to a 11-1 rout of Telstar in MVC baseball action Monday.
Labrie drove in three runs in that key first frame with a well-timed single to right center. Michael Bryant also contributed for the Saints (1-1) with two hits and two RBIs in a well-balanced attack.
The Rebels (0-2) were overwhelmed from the initial pitch and managed only three hits in the contest.
Poland 6, Fryeburg 3
POLAND — Isaiah Dubois and Jake Wiseman combined for three hits and three RBIs Monday as Poland hustled to a 6-3 MVC baseball win over Fryeburg.
The Knights (1-3) trailed by one after three frames before revving up the offense to post a pair of runs in both the fourth and fifth innings.
The Indians (0-1) were paced by Nicholis L’Hereaux Carland with three hits, while Brandon Ludwig belted out a pair of hits.
Lawrence 9, Lewiston 0
LEWISTON — Dereck Brown was perfect at the plate with a double, triple and three walks as Lawrence cruised to a 9-0 shutout victory over Lewiston in KVAC baseball action Monday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (2-1) executed most of their damage in the third an fourth innings, scoring seven runs in the two frames. Brown also recorded four RBIs for Lawrence.
Senior first baseman Carter Chabot had a single and a double for the Blue Devils (0-3), while senior center fielder Ryan Bell roped a double.
Dirigo 8, Mountain Valley 5
RUMFORD — Senior pitcher Kaine Hutchins helped himself on offense with a two-run double in the first inning as Dirigo collected an 8-5 win over Mountain Valley in MVC baseball action Monday afternoon.
The Cougars (1-1) received offensive support from Gus Brown, who scored twice and sacrificed a runner across home plate.
Senior right fielder Tucker Rowland contributed two hits and two runs for the Falcons (1-1).
Gray-NG 11, Lake Region 1
GRAY — Senior center fielder and co-captain Thomas Wood went 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI as Gray-New Gloucester captured an 11-1 win in five innings over Lake Region in WMC baseball action Monday afternoon.
Senior pitcher Tyler St.Pierre helped on offense with two singles, two runs batted in and scored once for the Patriots (2-0).
First baseman Jordan Williams had two of the Lakers (0-1) three hits.

Oxford Hills 10, Brunswick 2
PARIS — Erika Whitman scattered five hits in six innings and drew ample run support as Oxford Hills rolled to a 10-2 victory over Brunswick in KVAC softball action Monday.
Whitman led the Vikings’ (3-0) offensive effort with four hits and two RBIs. Anna Winslow also contributed with a pair of triples.
The Dragons (0-3) were paced by catcher Gianna Gaudeg with a pair of hits, highlighted by a double.
Lawrence 12, Lewiston 6
LEWISTON — Trailing by two runs after three innings, Lawrence rallied back to plate 10 runs in three frames and record a 12-6 win over Lewiston in a KVAC softball tilt Monday.
Paige Belanger and Sarah Chace led the Bulldogs (1-2) with two hits and two RBIs each, while Sydney Knowlton also belted out a pair of hits.
Maggie Phelan and Meagan Gosselin paced the Blue Devils (0-3) with two hits apiece.
Sam Marshall went the distance for Lawrence and earned the win with nine hits allowed.
Monmouth 18, Winthrop 2
MONMOUTH — Emily Chasse hurled five frames of one-hit softball Monday and drew all kinds of run support as Monmouth easily overpowered Winthrop in softball action.
Caleigh Copeland led the Mustangs (1-1) with three hits and three RBIs, while Haley Fletcher belted out a pair of hits.
Molly Glaser went the distance for the Ramblers (0-1) and gave up six hits while taking the loss.
Mountain Valley 7, Dirigo 1
RUMFORD — Senior pitcher Lindsay Marston held the visitors to one hit and struck out eight as Mountain Valley secured a 7-1 victory over Dirigo in MVC softball action Monday afternoon.
Junior catcher Kenzie Lord posted the only Cougar (1-1) hit in the fifth inning.
The Falcons (1-1) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Abby Mazza and Marston recorded a single and double each in the winning effort.
Madison 11, Oak Hill 4
MADISON — Kayla Bess smacked a double and a triple in Madison’s 11-4 victory over Oak Hill in MVC softball action Monday afternoon.
Bess also pitched a complete game and her battery mate Aly LeBlanc had a double in the victory. Madison’s (2-0) big inning came in the fourth when five runs came across as it extended the lead to 8-2.
Jamie Prue contributed to Oak Hill’s (0-2) effort with a double and a triple while driving in a run.
Winslow 15, Spruce Mountain 0
WINSLOW — Winslow scored nine runs in the first three innings and blanked Spruce Mountain 15-0 in a KVAC B softball matchup shortened to five innings.
The Black Raiders scored three in the first and five in the second to break the game open. Winslow finished it off with six in the fourth.
Hannah Doble held the Phoenix (0-3) to just two hits and struck out seven. Spruce Mountain’s only hits came from Hailee Perkins and Kaylee Leclerc.
Winsow’s Hayley Pottle had three hits, scored two runs and drove in a run. Hillary Libby had a homer and four RBI. Kiana Richards had a pair of hits and drove in a run.
Skowhegan 8, Mt. Blue 4
FARMINGTON — Skowhegan scored four runs in the second inning and never looked back in an 8-4 win over Mt. Blue in KVAC softball Monday.
Tied 2-2 after one, the Indians got RBI singles from Annie Worthen and Eliza Bedard to open a 6-2 lead. Bedard added an RBI double in the sixth for Skowhegan (2-0). She finished with two hits and two RBI.
Taylor Burke had a pair of hits for the Cougars (1-2) and drove in a run. Rachele Bator had a hit and RBI for Mt. Blue.
Ashley Alward earned the win, scattering six hits while striking out six and walking three. Chelsea Kane got the start for Mt. Blue. Burke came on in relief in the fourth.
Carrabec 15, Mt. Abram 8
SALEM — Carrabec scored eight runs in the first two innings and held off a Mt. Abram rally for a 15-8 win in MVC softball Monday.
The Cobras scored three runs in the first and added five more in the second for the early lead. Trailing 11-0, Mt. Abram cut the deficit in half with five runs in the fourth, but Carrabec held off the Roadrunners for the win.
Paige Chadbourne, Bailey Atwood, Liberty Chestnut, Mickayle Willette and Sam Lebeau each had a pair of hits for the Cobras (1-1). Abigayle Brackley led Mt. Abram (0-1) with three hits, while Jacey Davenport and Bailey Beers each had a pair of hits. Lebeau got the win, scattering 12 hits, while Olivia Ryan got the start for Mt. Abram and allowed 12 hits.
College baseball
UMF, Colby-Sawyer split
NEW LONDON, N.H. — The University of Maine at Farmington kept its playoff hopes alive with a doubleheader split, 1-4 and 7-1, against Colby-Sawyer in college baseball action Monday afternoon.
The Chargers started things rolling in the fifth inning of the first game with a bases-loaded bunt to score the first run. With two more hits, they added three more runs before the inning was over.
In the second game, Dustin McCrossin produced the Beavers’ (17-17) first run with an RBI groundout in the first inning.
Farmington blew the game open with three runs in the fifth inning. McCrossin drove in his second run of the game with a single and Tom Grady lined an RBI single to right field on the next play. Ethan Gouin roped a double down the left field line, allowing Grady and McCrossin to score.
College hockey
Harding is named USM men’s hockey coach
GORHAM — University of Southern Maine Director of Athletics Al Bean announced Monday that Ed Harding has been named men’s hockey head coach following a national search.
Harding served as the Huskies’ interim head coach for the final two months of the 2014-15 season, compiling a 5-10-1 record. Harding is a former USM player (1985-88) and assistant coach (1993-96).
A 2010 graduate of USM, Harding has an impressive coaching record. His most recent stint was as head coach of North Yarmouth Academy (2010-11).
Prior to his time at NYA, Harding also had a six-year relationship with the Lewiston Maineiacs. He began as an assistant coach (2003-05), before moving into the dual role of assistant general manager/assistant coach for two years. He served as the Maineiacs head coach and general manager for his final two years (2007-09).
