WALES — Firefighters from several towns responded to a house fire at 52 Woods Road just after noon Wednesday.
Crews from Wales, Leeds, Monmouth, Litchfield, Sabattus and Greene responded and the fire was reported under control in less than an hour.
Fire officials said one woman was asleep inside the house when it went up in flames. Roused by smoke alarms, she was able to escape the building without injury.
Later Wednesday, an investigator from the Office of the State Fire Marshal helped search for a cause. It was believed the blaze started in the basement.
The house is owned by a woman in Bowdoinham, according to the town’s tax assessment records, and is valued at $150,630.
